Borstelbeer repairs and sells electric toothbrushes. Booking a repair or placing an order means giving us a few details. Here’s what we ask for, why, and how long we keep it.
Who we are

What we record
When you book a repair: your name, email address, phone number and, if you post the brush to us, your address. Plus what you tell us about the brush: brand, model and what’s wrong with it.
When you order from the shop: your name, email address, delivery address and what you bought.
When you use the contact form: your name, email address, your message and, if you fill it in, your phone number. The form sends it as an ordinary email to our own mailbox; we only use it to reply to you.
When you message us on WhatsApp: the orange button in the bottom right opens a chat with us in WhatsApp. We then see your phone number, your WhatsApp name and what you send us, and we only use that to reply to you. The chat itself runs through WhatsApp, under WhatsApp’s own terms and privacy policy. Nothing goes to WhatsApp unless you click the button.
We never see your payment details. You pay through Mollie (repairs) or Shopify’s checkout (shop). They handle your iDEAL or card details; all we get back is whether the payment succeeded.
No tracking cookies. The site stores a couple of things in your own browser so it remembers where you got to in the repair form and what’s in your cart. That stays on your device and never reaches us. Shopify’s checkout does set its own cookies, which it needs to complete an order.
We count visits, without following you. Cloudflare Web Analytics shows us how many people visit the site, which pages they look at, which site they came from, their country and their kind of device. It does this without cookies and without recognising you or following you from one visit to the next. We only see totals, not people.
Why we record it
To do what you asked: schedule the repair, post your brush back, deliver your order and keep you informed. We also keep order and invoice records because Dutch tax law requires it.
Who else sees it
We don’t sell your data. A small number of companies process it on our behalf:
- Shopify: orders and repair bookings, including your name, address and what you ordered
- Mollie: payments for repairs
- Cloudflare: website hosting and the visit counts above; while you’re booking, your repair sits there for at most 72 hours until the payment completes
- DHL: delivery and return shipping, if you post your brush
- Our email provider: contact form messages arrive there as email
- WhatsApp (Meta): only if you choose to message us through the WhatsApp button
How long we keep it
- A repair booking that never gets paid: 72 hours at most, then it deletes itself
- Orders and repair jobs: seven years, as Dutch tax law requires
- Guarantee: for as long as your repair or product is under guarantee we need to be able to look up what we did for you
- Contact form messages: for as long as we need them to deal with your question
Your rights
You can ask to see your data, have it corrected or deleted, and object to us processing it. Email [email protected] and we’ll sort it out.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Questions
Email [email protected] or drop by the workshop in Delft. We’d rather explain than have you guess.
